The combination of reduced costs and increased efficiencies of industrial Si solar cells makes the development of new crystallization processes critical.
When introducing re-usable crystallization crucibles, the crystallization process itselves will change and new furnace concepts will be developed.
Production of solar ingots will change from batch processes to continuous crystallization processes and furnaces, reducing conversion costs from feedstock to as-grown ingot by up to 50 %.
As solar cell efficiency is continuously increasing, the quality specifications for ingots and wafers are increasing simultaneously. Fundamental problems coming from traditional quartz crucibles will soon be a limiting factor for further efficiency improvements.
